Praise for Leon Hale's Writing
A SMIlE FROM KATIE HATTAN
Beloved Texas author Leon Hale takes us with him into a world where smiling seems to come naturally. Riding with him in these pages, we feel our stress and anxiety melting away. This is Texas of the heart and soul as lived by the people he encountered in the cafes, country stores and crossroads of the state over his long career. And they’re introduced to us by one of the state’s greatest storytellers.
With these new paperback and Ebook editions of his first collection, we re-discover the qualities that made Hale a popular columnist for The Houston Post, and later Houston Chronicle, for more than sixty years. His warmth and humor are timeless.
Leon Hale was the award-winning longtime columnist for the Houston Chronicle and before that the Houston Post. In addition to his sixty years of newspaper columns on the people and places of Texas, he was the author of twelve books. Among numerous professional accolades, many related to column writing, he also received the Texas Institute of Letters lifetime achievement award and best novel award. He died in 2021.
